Still Around and Working Out!

Hey! Long time no see!

I know, I know, that’s my fault. The semester picked up and I’ve been traveling, or hosting traveling guests. It’s been busy! I promise, I have not forgotten you and I will get right back to blogging very soon.

I now have SO much stuff to share! Namon and I even got a GoPro, so our videos will hopefully be better. 

I’m checking in to update a bit about my person workout journey. Feel free to write and let me know about yours! If you give me permission, I can even celebrate you here with a post!

I am in week 3, of month 3, of P90X3! I can’t believe I have actually stuck with it this long! I’m seeing SO many gains from sticking with a regular workout routine, it’s been amazing!  For example, when I do The Challenge now, which is all push-ups and pull-ups, I end up doing over 90 push-ups throughout the routine!?!  I never thought I’d be able to do that many!

Today was Agility X and Ab Ripper X3.  I am slowly but surely finding more and more definition around my abs. I don’t have a six pack yet, but now having one doesn’t seem so impossible.  Even better, I can see so much improvement in how I did with Agility X now vs my first week with the program.  

We are going to do the elite block, so I have one more month with X3.  At the end I will take my 120 day photo and show before and after.

I’m hooked. Even after I finish P90X3, I’m going to have to have a daily routine. It’s been wonderful to have so much more energy and strength. Not to mention, my resting heart rate is now consistently at a healthy range. I went from a resting rate of 90 to 67!  This, for me, is the biggest gain ever. 

Maybe I’ll even have abs by the time I’m done! If not, I still have some pretty awesome arms!

… you just get stronger.

We’ve all heard that saying, “It doesn’t get easier, you just get stronger.”  I always assumed that at some point exercise would at least FEEL easier. I’m learning that “easy” is not the point of exercise.

Today was nothing new, Eccentric Lower and Ab Ripper X3, and it felt just as hard and I was just as tired and just as sweaty as ever. 

However, I finally noticed something. I noticed that I wasn’t as sloppy with the motions. Instead of stumbling and falling and tapping my toes to the ground, which I did do a little bit mostly, mostly I was going through the movements smoothly. I was squatting lower, reaching further, and tapping less. 

Even with the pistol squats which I abhor!

During Ab Ripper, I was keeping up, holding my positions, finishing every rep. I didn’t collapse halfway through a move. I did every rep. I didn’t pause. I didn’t skip. I hung in there until the end.

When did I start doing this? Somehow this happened while I was too distracted looking for a hint of abs!

Nothing got easier. It doesn’t really even FEEL easier, but I have definitely gotten stronger.

NOT the Morning I Was Hoping For

Don’t let the bow tie fool you. This kitten is filled with mayhem… and an abundance of bodily fluid he decided to distribute all over my bathroom floor. 😣

This morning did not go as planned!

For starters, we got to bed late so when the 5am alarm went off, neither of us were willing to get up and workout. We promised we would do it tonight. …

Then, when I did get up, I left the lovely lavender scents of my bedroom and opened the door to smell cat urine.

The whole apartment! The entire apartment smelled like a cat box!

I clean the two litter boxes every day, so this was just baffling. Before my workout I decided I have to clean the bathroom where the cat boxes live.

I vacuumed everything, cleaned the boxes, and when I picked up the corner of the rubber mat that was placed under the boxes to catch litter, it peel back with a wet, slimy, smacking sound.

Beneath, the floor was covered in cat pee.

I. Was. Horrified.

Apparently, Mjulnir believed that the rubber mat was there to use as an ulternative to the litter boxes.

That was when I went into full sanitation mode.

I Hulked out and took that entire room apart. Swabbed deck with disinfectant. Cleaned the mat, the floor, the walls, EVERYTHING.

I then soaked the mat in Pet Fabreze so the little guy won’t smell a trace of urine.

I was ready to kill this kitten! This was a VERY disgusting job!

I then did the workout scheduled for today to kind of blow off some steam. Triometrics and Ab Ripper X3.

Then, I cleaned this house from top to bottom! Everything was scrubbed! Everything!

By the time I was finished morning was gone, but my house smells clean and I don’t feel I am living in flithe.


Mjulnir is lucky he is cute.

One of those days

Guess what I’m having!

I forgot to set my alarm, so I got a late start to my day. Normally this isn’t that big of a deal when Namon is out of town, but today I was planning to make a crockpot meal to celebrate his return.

I love the crockpot because usually it is very easy.

This meal was not. At least, not when you are fighting the clock because it needs six hours to cook and today was a long workout day!

I didn’t even shower, I just started to prep in my workout clothes!

I made a HUGE mess in the kitchen! It is pretty much covered in grease, I will have to mop, and I made a ton of dishes. I even broke a tablespoon while trying to get my honey out of the jar. This had better be the best meal ever.

We all have those days, guys! All of us! I’m gonna do my best to shake this off, clean my kitchen, and turn this day around.

If the meal turns out I will glad share my video (I look so over everything in the video, but hey!) and post the recipe.

Where did the morning go?!

Ugh!!! MMX3, Ab Ripper X3, and six push-ups for a month long push-up challenge I’m doing! 

I’m wiped and I haven’t really even started my day! 

… well no, I actually did a lot of teacher work today cause students are waiting to the last minute to get their stuff done. 😑 But ya gotta love students. They are learning time management, and I hope to help them! 

A teacher’s job is never just a 9 to 5, Monday through Friday gig!

Anyway, I hope your weekend is off to a strong start!

Goodbye, Oh Cheese, I Shall Miss You…

Abs? Are you there yet? 

So close, guys! So close!

Today, as I continue with P90X3, was Eccentric Lower and Ab Ripper X3… sphinx crunches and a move called bridge burner get me every time! 

To help this ab process along I’m gonna dump the dairy. It’s not going to be easy, I love cheese. 

So much. 

But I also want to see what happens when I stick to no gluten (not a choice, it wrecks my stomach!) and remove dairy too. 

Dairy won’t be a forever deal, just an experiment. 

Now off to do some push-ups because I’m ridiculous and I volunteered to join this push-ups challenge! I volunteered! As tribute apparently.

Tonight we are cooking steak! I’ll film this one 😉. Sorry I was absent the last two dinner days. It’s been a busy week.

Some Days are Harder than Others

I do not motivate well alone, y’all!

Namon was out of town this morning, so it was up to me to wake up, move the furniture around, and exercise alone. Let me tell you, I greatly admire all of you who do this on a daily basis. Namon is a HUGE support for me, and he helps motivate me when I’m not feeling it.

He keeps me honest too. I had to keep reminding myself to not slack just because I’m alone. When he’s doing it all with me I get competitive. By myself it is easier not to go as low, or as fast etc.

I did it! I did Triometrics, Ab Ripper X3, AND four push-ups for a push-ups challenge I’m doing with some friends. I did it because I have a good support of fitness folks who check in and help motivate me enough when Namon’s not here. I’m just saying it wasn’t easy and working out alone is a whole different beast! 

I’m gonna have to try harder next time Namon has to leave on a trip!

He comes home today, so I can ask him if I got abs while he was gone! 😉😋

Six Eggs Shy of a Frittata 

The beacons are lit!!!

We need more sun on these pasty bodies!

This morning was a tough one! We had MMX and Ab Ripper X3! I was drenched in sweat by the end! 

I love MMX! I feel like Black Widow, punching out the bad guys! 

Granted I look more like a skinny English teacher who thinks she looks like Black Widow, but who cares! I’m in my own living room and if Namon judges he never tells me! 😉

Perks of the weekend workout, Namon makes breakfast. 

Today he wanted to attempt a frittata. He asked, “So, it’s like scrambled eggs without being scrambled right?”

“Sure,” I said, with a LOT more confidence than I actually had. (I never had a frittata much less made one) “I think you scramble the eggs in a bowl and pour it over things in a pan?”

“Like an omelette but not folded?”

“You got it!” I assured him, and then ran away to put the living room back together.

What resulted was kind of like a tasty egg pizza? It was really thin, with zucchini, onion, spinach, tomato and four eggs. (Hence thin!)

We looked up frittata recipes afterward and discovered he was six eggs shy. 

Six eggs shy of a frittata is now our new band name, if I ever gain musical talent.

It was tasty though!

Getting There

Third time around with Ab Ripper X, and there is this move…

You go from banana (on your back with legs and shoulders hovering above the mat and you arms extend over your head… so you look like a slightly curved banana), and you fold up into boat (legs up, body up, balancing on your butt to be a human V, arms out in front reaching towards your ankles). You twist from side to side twice and then back down into banana.

You do this ten times.

I am awful! Just awful!

I am not a curvy banana, I am more like a carrot, straight. 

I am not a human V, I’m a division sign, knees bent.

Kills me every time.

I’m gonna master this move. I am not going to let it defeat me! As Tony Horton says, “Don’t say you can’t, say you are currently struggling with.”  

Oh am I ever! But I’ll get this. I’m getting there. 

Eccentric Lower today. I think, think mind you, that I’m better with lower than upper, but it is close. I am SO gonna feel this workout in my butt tomorrow. I suppose that’s the point, right?

Anyway, I am in need of some serious coffee, and then I have to get started on some water because my fitness group on Facebook is doing a water challenge and I don’t want to fall behind.

Why We Push Ourselves

Doing something new is hard.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a new workout, a new eating habit, or a new experience. Stepping out of our comfort zone is never easy.

However, it’s when we push ourselves, challenge ourselves to be better, that we can start seeing real gains. It’s when we go out on a limb that we can see the fruits of our labor.

If you had told me even a year ago that I’d not only be doing P90X3, but that I’d be enjoying it, I would have said you were dreaming. I didn’t think I had the ability to do this routine.

But I pushed myself.

Instead of admitting defeat before I ever even tried, I went out on the limb.

I have NEVER seen such gains from a workout before. I’m curling ten pounds! Ten! Last year I struggled with five!

I can’t sit back and stop now, however. I have to keep pushing forward. If I stop challenging my muscles, they stop getting stronger. If I find an exercise easy, I have to modify until it’s harder.

Trust me, I’m not there yet! I’m still finding the EASY versions of the routine extremely hard!  But now I know that one day I WILL get there. I’ll have to increase my weights, and I’ll have to increase my speed, because it will make me better.

I’ve learned that I should never turn away from struggles.

Both in my workouts and in life! I’ve had my fair share of both!

Struggle is always the beginning of growth. I never want to stop growing.
